Jemma Ortiger's design highlights how sustainable transport, especially cycling, can help keep us moving - without costing the earth. Jemma met up with TEDx speaker and educator Lindsay Miles in Perth to talk about alternative forms of transport. Together they want to spread the word that switching to cycling is a small step that’s not only good for your mental and physical health, but good for the health of the planet.

 Dismantle is an award-winning youth cause that uses bike upcycling to engage disadvantaged young people. Recycling close to 1000 bikes a year, Dismantle’s mission is to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through hands-on skill building, supportive mentoring and employment pathways.

OUR WHALES BELOW

Student designer Kaitlyn Geltner has a passion for the ocean, and her jar design was inspired by the way whales continually cycle nutrients in our oceans. She met science educator and environmentalist Laura Wells on the beautiful south coast of NSW to discuss their shared love of the ocean as well as ways we can protect ocean species and each do our bit to make a  little difference. 

 ORRCA is committed to the rescue, research, conservation and welfare of Whales, Dolphins, Seals and Dugongs in Australian Waters.

Nicole Canuto used her jar design to champion upcycling and reusability, and highlight how we can incorporate sustainable reuse practises into our daily lives. She's teamed up with blogger and influencer Dr. Anita Vandyke - who advocates finding zero waste alternatives to everyday products - to spread the message about how small changes add up to make a big collective difference. 

 Planet Ark are focused on making positive environmental actions accessible to everyone, including opportunities for reuse, recycling and reducing waste. Planet Ark's goal is to build a world where humans thrive in balance with nature.

SMALL ACTIONS

Student designer Georgia Billman believes that small actions made now can play a huge part in bringing about sustainable future change. Each element of her design represents the little actions we can all take to make a difference. She met influencer and thrifty-environmentalist Brooke Styles at her home on the Sunshine Coast. Brooke lives these values every day by growing her own veggies and giving new life to old products.

 As New Zealand's largest food rescue venture, KiwiHarvest reduces the negative impacts of food waste on our environment by redistributing excess food to those in need - helping to create lasting positive social change.

PROTECTING FRIENDS

Celine Groene’s design celebrates Australia’s biodiversity and the cockatoos she calls friends. She believes that these cockatoos, along with every living organism on earth, deserve to be respected and protected. She caught up with Aussie actor and wildlife advocate Matty Wilson on the stunning Mornington Peninsula to discuss their shared passion for our Aussie wildlife friends, and how we can all take small steps to help protect them.

 Wildlife Victoria has provided the Victorian community with a wildlife Emergency Response Service for 35 years.  Each year Wildlife Victoria and its dedicated volunteers respond to over 100,000 calls to help sick, injured and orphaned wildlife.

BEE THE CHANGE

The inspiration for Sophie Williamson's design comes from the fact that bees, butterflies and other pollinators play a major role in the world's ecosystems - and are therefore essential for a sustainable future. She caught up with Jessie Baker from Bees Up Top to see first hand what we can do to help keep our beautiful pollinators healthy and thriving.

 Bees Up Top’s mission is to increase bee populations by rescuing displaced bees and treating them for disease, with the aim of rehoming healthy, happy hives to urban areas including rooftops and backyards across NZ.
